If you’ve ever wanted to be a part of a revolution, this is your chance. Arizona Citizens Action for the Arts (AzCA) is hosting “Rubbish Revolution” on April 3, from 6 to 10:30 p.m. at the First Fridays Art Walk in Downtown Phoenix. The special art installment joins art and sustainability to give your trash a happy home.
Recyclable cardboard trash boxes will be provided for participating galleries and businesses along Roosevelt Row to start the revolution. Involved artists will create an artistic recycling bin with the box under the theme "art and sustainability." The artwork will be showcased and featured on a walkable tour map.
This is your call to arms!
AzCA is hosting a booth at Conspire Coffee Shop (5th and Garfield) to raise awareness about art and sustainability issues. We will also be hosting a booth at ASU’s event, “Urban Gallery Exhibition” at the downtown campus. It is more important than ever to support these causes during this current economic crisis. Stop by our booths to help decorate trash boxes and voice your opinion on the arts and sustainability. Your quotes will be used to fight the good fight for favorable legislation regarding the arts.
The Rubbish Revolution at First Fridays is only the beginning. This project will be packaged to demonstrate the need for recycling in this area and push for permanent recycling and trash services. It will also be compiled into a digital booklet and sent to all art agencies across Arizona to start a statewide revolution.
We believe that art creates a sustainable culture. Remember, history would be forgotten without art.
Drop all your plans, bring all your friends, and meet us at Rubbish Revolution on April 3rd (unless you have something more noble to do that night than supporting the arts and saving the earth).
